FALL KNIT-A-LONGS

This fall Magpie Yarn is hosting 6 different Knit-Alongs focusing on well-known designers from around the world. Meeting on Mondays or Thursdays from 2-5 pm, we will explore two new designers each month. Browse through their patterns on Ravelry and pick out a fun project or two. Get inspired by what everyone else is knitting.

These events are free and open to anyone. Come relax with us for a couple of hours of knitting in the afternoon.

SEPTEMBER

MONDAYS: AMBAH O’BRIEN hails from Australia. She is best known for her shawl designs which often combine bold geometric patterns with delicate lace.

THURSDAYS: STEPHEN WEST, the well known American designer is currently based in Amsterdam. His work needs no introduction, being one of the most prolific designers working today. Over 240 matches when you search his name on Ravelry. Brioche, bold color choices, always fun.

OCTOBER

MONDAYS: ISABELL KRAEMER is German. Her sweaters are simple and casual but define contemporary design. Stripes and color blocking are an important part of her look. Her shapes are always easy to wear.

THURSDAYS: JOJI LOCATELLI lives in Buenos Aires. She describes herself as “Just a girl from Argentina who really likes to knit”. Her recent MKAL, Starting Point Shawl, was hugely popular. Sweaters, shawls, cowls…there is a lot to chose from in her pattern collection.

NOVEMBER

MONDAYS: MALANIE BERG is from Bonn, Germany. Primarily a shawl designer, her work features bold geometry, stripes, asymmetry, and interesting textures. They often provide a great opportunity for using mini-packs or left-over stash yarns.

THURSDAYS: ARNE & CARLOS are a design team who live and work in a converted train station about 100 miles north of Oslo, Norway. They are heavily influenced by the Scandinavian textile tradition and everyday life in rural Norway. For the third year in a row we will be knitting their Christmas balls for the holiday.

TRUNK SHOW

QUINCE & CO SHAWLS 2017. October 30 – November 11. This year’s collection features 5 shawls in a variety of Quince & Co yarns, something for every season. Texture and lace are the main themes in these generously shaped designs. They will be sure to inspire you.

SEPTEMBER DONATION DROP-OFF

DONATIONS FOR LEXINGTON PRISON CRAFT PROGRAM: All during the month of September Magpie Yarn will be accepting donations for the Lexington Federal Women’s Prison Craft Program. This medical rehab facility has a very active craft program that teaches knitting, crocheting, and quilting. Everything that they make is donated back to the community, to homeless shelters, senior centers, hospitals, etc. At last count, all but about 10% of the inmates participated. Any contribution you would like to make is welcome: yarn, fabric, needlecraft tools, partial skeins and small fabric scrapes are fine. It is all tax deductible. Bring it by during shop hours in September and we will be sure it gets delivered. You can make a difference in so many lives.
